Ultra: Did Ultra Shorten the Length of WWII? Did "ULTRA" shorten the length of WWII? ULTRA was the name given to the product of the decription of the Axis Powers, most often German, signals by the Allies, initially only by the British then later in the war by the Americans also. What was the value of knowing almost in real time the tactics of your adversary? Troop movements. Ship movements? Train schedules. Aircraft routes? Submarine locations? Historians have estimated that by one to four years was the time that ULTRA help end the war. We will delve into this complex and fascinating true life story in the days ahead. Contributor's Note I am a student at Harvard this semester and I am researching ULTRA for a paper. Extremely interesting. I will be doing research in London and Hamburg in October and hope to find new information on the amazing secret of Bletchley Park.
